This post is in a series where we talk to healthcare interior designers about their work and industry. Jane Rohde, Founder and Principal of JSR Associates, is certified by the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID).

What is one book, person, or talk that has been most influential in your career?

What products have you been excited about recently?

The idea of integrated technology into products, such as Celliant®, for health and wellness is intriguing to me.

Another product idea that is interesting is the integration of all or most systems into one centralized platform – making administration of buildings and administration of occupants (staff, patients, residents, families, etc.) having the opportunity to share data. The collection of data isn't the issue; it is how it is integrated, used, and provided to improve user outcomes and quality of life.

Do you have any go-to design solutions or techniques for creating healing environments?

There are no "pre-set" solutions for healing environments. The utilization of a functional programming process, including the evaluation of the environment of care (EOC), is the key to successful healthcare solutions (https://www.fgiguidelines.org/ and http://www.withseniorsinmind.org/).

With the advent and focus on health and wellness, I recommend checking out GSA's Sustainable Facilities Tool and specifically the Buildings and Health module.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Find your passion and fearlessly go after your dreams.

What is one product that doesn't exist but should?

A training tool for person-centered care integrated with workforce development.
