This post is in a series where we talk to healthcare interior designers about their work as interior designers in the healthcare market.

Melissa Pribyl is an Associate Principal and Interior Designer at McCool Carlson Green. She is certified by the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID).

What is one book, person, or talk that has been most influential in your career?

One person who comes to mind is Brené Brown. Her view on authenticity has opened my eyes to being a more well-rounded person both in and out of the office.

What products have you been excited about recently?

I have been so excited to see the influx of healthy materials enter the market place. As a Red List Free Firm, we are pretty giddy when anything comes at us that has been recreated to leave a healthier footprint on our environment.

Do you have any go-to design solutions or techniques for creating healing environments?

Views and daylight! We are privileged here in Anchorage, Alaska to be able to showcase some pretty spectacular views of our mountains and green spaces. To be able to make the most of these views that reduce stress on our patients is a gift.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

To never stop learning! Our industry is constantly striving to make our environments better. And our evidence-based design approach is pushing the boundaries of healthcare to its full potential.

What is one product that doesn't exist but should?

An FF&E/existing conditions inventory app that is both mobile and desktop compatible!

We've also talked to Michelle Clark (REES Associates), Jennifer Fink (BDA Architects), Lindsay Hampton (Pulse Design Group), Melinda Avila-Torio (THW Design), Lilliana Alvarado (UPHEALING), Ashleigh Pfluger (TJNG Partners Inc.), Jane Rohde (JSR Associates), John DuBard (Boulder Associates), Lisa Cini (Mosaic Design Studio), Susan Clark (Clark Patterson Lee), Crystal Hill (Odell Associates), Dr. Debra Harris (RAD Consultants), Libby Laguta (L2D.Design), Kristin Ellingsen (Office Furniture Group), Kimberly Bernheimer (PF&A Design), Melissa Perry (Inventure), Kelley Dorsett (HDR), Christin Troutman (MCA), Keith Stanton (Thoma-Holec Design), Clairanne Pesce (Array Architects), Linnea Rehnke (Advocate Aurora Health), Marleen Milligan (Cuningham Group), Jamison Delfino (Taylor Design), and Drusilla Brewer (The East Group).
